If you do an Alaska cruise, you’ll see your favorite character in fur-trimmed parkas, and if you take a seasonal cruise, such as a Halloween or holiday cruise, you’ll see characters in costumes and Christmas sweaters. There’s nothing cuter than seeing Mickey Mouse dressed up like Dracula. If you’re into character greetings, you’ll be delighted to know that character attire on a Disney Cruise Line ship is unique. You’ll see characters in nautical outfits on board, in beachwear on Disney’s Castaway Cay, and pirate garb on pirate night. Dreams is a production exclusive to Disney Cruise Line about a little girl named Anne Marie who learns to believe in herself through several musical interactions with various Disney characters.
Exclusive Dining
During my sailing, I chose to catch two different films that were still in theaters. Watching the movies later in the evening ensured that I did not miss any of the fun and events that happened each night onboard. In addition to theater Broadway-style shows, Disney also has some other forms of unique entertainment, such as fireworks at sea!
Funnel Vision
Our turn in Animator's Palate happened on the final night of our cruise, so the entire wait staff came out for a round of well-deserved applause with Mickey, and it was honestly pretty emotional. All original four Disney ships have a version of Animator's Palate, though it varies a bit on each ship. Instead, it's quite similar in many ways to all its fleetmates except Disney Wish, which is really a part of the next generation of Disney ships rather than a continuation of the look and feel of the first four.
It’s a Small World Nursery
Throughout the day, Disney classics and new releases -- ranging from "Cinderella" to "Frozen" -- are played on the big screen. The Buena Vista Theatre is adjacent to the kids' clubs, on Deck 5 midship. On Disney Magic’s Marvel at Sea Days, the theater is all Avengers, all the time.

Additionally, sailings from San Diego to Baja California or eastbound to Galveston (and vice versa) through the Panama Canal are also available. Disney Magic no longer offers Mediterranean and Bermuda cruises; those are now available onboard sister ship Disney Dream. Beyond its intimate feel, a cruise on Disney Magic is all about attention to detail. While prices are often at a premium and upsells abound, you'll likely find it's money well spent if Disney is part of your family's DNA. It would also be a real plus if Disney Magic integrated a magical scavenger hunt type of activity that you see on other Disney ships. This would layer in one more thing for the kids to do on a sea day or between other activities.
Shows are aligned with dinner seatings
Here, you get the unique experience of attending Rapunzel's birthday celebration. The crew member, Tirso Neri, who was working aboard the Disney Dream, was found by law enforcement to have sexually explicated photos and videos of minors on two different phones in his possession. According to reports from USA Today, an affidavit signed by a Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent stated that the photos and videos included both children and teenagers.
However, adult guests can purchase a beer or wine drink package should they choose to, though neither is all-inclusive. Passengers can save up to 25% off when they purchase a wine or beer package. I have found that sailing with Disney Cruise Line involves a bit more planning a preparation than other cruise voyages.
One major difference between Disney Cruise dining and other cruise lines is that most non-alcoholic drinks are included at no additional cost — no need to purchase a separate drink package! Located near the pool, this soda station offers unlimited refills all day long. Like all Disney Cruise Ships, the Disney Magic offers rotational dining during the nightly dinner service. This Disney Cruise Line innovation pre-schedules you to visit a different restaurant on each night of the cruise. You’ll have the same waitstaff each night, so they’ll get to know you and your food preferences.
Shipyard (Ship’s Birthplace)
The ever first Disney ship, Magic was launched in 1998 to serve the special preferences of a new generation Disney package vacation fun fans. It's a Small World Nursery (Deck 5, midship) takes babies as young as 3 months and children up to 3 years of age. The nursery is stocked with baby swings, walkers, books, toys, games and a TV, as well as a quiet area with cribs. There is a per-hour charge for this service, but it allows parents time to be on their own for dinner in Palo or a trip to the spa, for example. You can sign up your child in person onboard; spots are assigned on a first-come-, first-served basis on embarkation day.
On Marvel sailings, this area is transformed into a venue for Avengers-themed gear. There are two theaters on Disney Magic -- one reserved for the ship's magical production shows and the other for Disney movies, which are played multiple times throughout the cruise. Other events include a movie marathon, a costume night, and special stunt show that features fireworks and incredible stunts on the ship deck. On select 7-day cruises, you'll step into the atrium and find it has been converted into a winter wonderland, where you will meet all sorts of characters from Arendelle.
